Rave Reviews for Flower Show

Impressive, Interesting, Fun, Fantastic, Breathtakingly Beautiful… These were just a few of the many compliments heard from Bethany Beach residents and visitors who attended the “Visual Vacation” Flower Show and Garden Tour last weekend at The Salt Pond community.

The Flower Show, sponsored by Bethany’s own Gardeners by the Sea, transported visitors to vacation destinations, weekend getaways, celebrations, and fun vacation experiences through 24 fabulous floral design exhibits. More than 160 Horticulture exhibits provided a showcase of outstanding plant specimens grown by club members. Educational displays introduced show attendees to Native Plants and Pollinators - two topics that generated a lot of interest from club members and show attendees alike.

A highlight of the flower show was the display of hand painted chairs by second graders in Mrs. Whelan’s class at Lord Baltimore Elementary School in Ocean View. Pictures and thank you notes from children in this class validated the many hours that garden club members spent throughout the year encouraging students’ interest in and appreciation for nature.

“The year of planning for this event was evident in this magnificent show,” said club President, Jean Sewald. “The Salt Pond clubhouse has never before looked so wonderful as it did this past weekend!”

A tour of gardens in The Salt Pond Community was very popular with flower show attendees. One of the homeowners described his garden as “A Staycation” — there’s no place that his family would rather be! Garden visitors were no doubt inspired by the beauty, landscaping, and thriving plants in each of the very different gardens.

Gardeners by the Sea is one of 23 member clubs of Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs. Each club is unique and has its own approach for supporting the interests of their members and the goals and objectives of National Garden Clubs, Inc.
