Youth Poster Contest Winners

Plantation Lakes Garden Cub in Millsboro, Delaware, is pleased to announce that we had four local winners in the 50th annual Youth Poster Contest sponsored by National Garden Clubs, Inc., and the U.S. Forest Service. These four posters were submitted for a state award, and the second grade winner was selected by the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs to be entered in the 2017 nationwide contest.
Twenty-two students of art teacher Leah Barranco, at East Millsboro Elementary School, and one home-schooler submitted posters highlighting the conservation messages of Woodsy Owl and Smokey Bear. Prizes donated by The Kite Loft, in Ocean City, were presented by club member and local artist Doris Nilson to these four grade-level winners of the 2017 competition sponsored by Plantation Lakes Garden Club.
Thank you, Nance Mattison of Legum & Norman Property Management, for collaborating with the garden club in conducting this poster contest by making applications available at the Plantation Lakes Community Center and displaying all 22 entries in mid-January. (see photo above)
Many thanks to Youth Activity Committee Chair Doris and club member Jan Pallas-Dudley for their efforts, and a shout-out to the Millsboro Library for making applications available to library patrons.
