Worms in My Basement?
Judy Pfister, Plantation Lakes Garden Club member and a Sussex County Master Gardener, harvests worms in her basement.
At our October meeting, Judy explained that worms are used to recycle food scraps and other organic material into vermicompost (worm compost). Worms eat the food scraps, which become compost as they pass through the worm body. This compost can then be used to fertilize our shrubs, plants, and flowers.
PLGC members and guests were fascinated to learn about the process and to see Judy's worms. Some of us even went home with a small water bottle filled with liquid vermicompost to use on our plants.
Judy was a wonderful presenter with an interesting and informative program. Thanks, Judy!
