How to Choose, Plant, and Grow Bulbs

Plantation Lakes Garden Club kicked off its first full year with a program that is very connected to our theme of "Growing Together." Catherine Winkler, proprietor of Roots Landscaping and Garden Center in nearby Selbyville, presented us with information that will be a huge help in planting our spring-blooming bulbs. (photo below) Program/Project Chair Marie VanDerWall reminded us that pink bulbs would be an ideal way to demonstrate our commitment to Plant It Pink, a joint project of NGC® and Susan G Komen for the Cure®. With a little luck, we might have some home-grown pink tulips to include in our May Baskets! Photo: Sylvia Heidbreder

Penny Pines

Penny Pines is a National Garden Clubs project that helps to restore areas damaged by fire or natural disaster, such as the recent California fires or the floods in Louisiana. All of our members participate in this effort by donating loose change at our meetings. Penny Pines Chair Marie VanDerWall announced at our September meeting that our club's first donation to Penny Pines had been made in recognition of me as the founding member of our club. I am so honored and blessed. Thank you all for supporting this project and helping me get this club up and running. I couldn't be prouder of all our members! Photo: Sylvia Heidbreder
