Our Story

PLANTATION LAKES GARDEN CLUB is a small organization of community residents who gather monthly for educational programs, activities, and friendships that are primarily gardening-oriented. Our current members have a broad range of interests, but we prioritize them differently. And we do enjoy our field trips in the local area and beyond.

We encourage non-members to attend a few of our meetings so you have an opportunity to get to know us as a club and as individual members. You will find that some of us never gardened before moving to Plantation Lakes and others who can be relied upon for helpful tips and tricks about native plants, pollinators, floral design and other topics.

FOCUS ON COMMUNITY is our theme this year, with most of our projects dedicated to beautification efforts within Plantation Lakes. We take pride in the Blue Star Memorial and Pollinator Garden that we dedicated in front of the community center in June 2021. We create and share May Baskets each year to "beautify Plantation Lakes one front door at a time." During the 2021-2022 garden club year, we will help young gardeners in the neighborhood plant and maintain a second community garden near the swimming pool.

A LITTLE HISTORY: Plantation Lakes Garden Club became a reality on February 10, 2016 when 12 founding members, including the first officers, were installed by the President-elect and former President of Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. A month later, PLGC was accepted into that organization and National Garden Clubs, Inc. These affiliations provide us with a mountain of resources, training and support for our club and members while encouraging the autonomy to focus on our own local area - and state, if we are inclined to do so.

OUR MEETINGS take place at 11 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the Flex Room that is located on the lower level of The Landing. The time, location and format may change occasionally when our activities take place off-site, so please use the CONTACT tab at the top of this page to R.S.V.P. so we can confirm the details for you.

THERE IS STILL TIME to add your interests to our to-do list for this garden club year! Use the JOIN tab at the top of any page on this website for more information about becoming a member.
